New construction of a small 28m² house in Gréasque

Chrysalide is a compact 28 m² dwelling designed as an evolving cocoon in harmony with its natural surroundings. Built on the same plot as an existing house, it combines ergonomics and comfort while blending seamlessly into the landscape. With movable walls and shutters, the house adapts to the seasons, light, and the inhabitants’ needs. Every element is optimized to create a functional, flexible, and dynamic living space.

Architectural Plans

Despite its limited floor area, the design required extensive planning to achieve the most ergonomic layout possible. The goal was to create spaces that feel both functional and pleasant, while maintaining a sense of openness despite the constraints of a compact footprint.

Architectural Sections

The development of the project relied heavily on sectional drawings, which provided a clear understanding of the site’s topography and the significance of its slope. This analysis led to the implementation of an earthworks strategy, allowing the house to be carefully integrated into its surroundings. In particular, this approach minimizes its visual impact and ensures that it does not exceed the ridge height of the existing house located on the same plot.

Solar Orientation Study

One of the main challenges of this project was solar exposure. Located in the south of France, the site benefits from intense sunlight throughout the year. It was therefore necessary to develop a solution that would provide effective protection from solar radiation while preserving generous levels of natural daylight. The objective was to ensure optimal thermal comfort without compromising the quality of light and the openness of the interior spaces.
