Renovation and elevation of a house in Dauphin
Dauphin is a renovation and extension project for a house located in Dauphin, in the heart of the Luberon. Centered around the theme of nature and the blurred boundary between interior and exterior, the design seeks to create a poetic, seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. Intended as a holiday home, it was designed to accommodate two couples and their young children in a peaceful setting inspired by nature.
The concept
Nature forms the guiding concept of this project. Inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the design integrates the four natural elements as a way of strengthening the connection between architecture and its environment. Water is reflected in the fluid circulation of the space, air through the openings and natural ventilation, earth through the spiral staircase conceived as a tree rooted in the ground, and fire through the hearth and wood-burning stove. Together, these elements create an architecture deeply connected to nature and the experience of living within it.
Architectural Plans
The house is organized over three levels, connected by a spiral staircase that serves as the project’s central element. On the upper floors, a radial circulation pattern distributes the different spaces from a common core. Each level benefits from a direct connection to the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the relationship between interior and exterior spaces and strengthening the sense of immersion in nature.

Architectural Section
The section provides a clearer understanding of the vertical circulation within the project while highlighting the spiral staircase as its central architectural feature. Conceived as a tree rising through the building, it reinforces the idea of nature transcending architecture, creating a strong connection between the built environment and the natural world.
Facades
The North and West facades play a central role in the project, as they contain the largest and most carefully designed openings. These facades strengthen the relationship between the interior spaces and the surrounding landscape, maximizing natural light and views. They also reveal the project’s distinctive roof composition, where two opposing roof slopes converge and are connected by a vertical roof extension designed to accommodate the tree. This architectural feature reinforces the concept of nature inhabiting and transcending the built form.
